Cycling Training Camp in Mallorca: Transfers for Clubs and Their Bikes

Every winter and spring, hundreds of cycling clubs from northern Europe choose Mallorca for their training camp: well-surfaced roads, little traffic outside the summer, mild temperatures and every kind of climb, from the flat roads of the Pla to the passes of the Serra de Tramuntana. If you are organising your club's camp, transport is one of the things worth sorting out early: the airport with the bikes, the ride days far from the hotel and the trip home. In this guide we explain how we do it.

When and where training camps take place

The main season runs from February to May, when teams prepare for the start of the season, and there is a second one in October and November. In high summer it is too hot to train for long hours.

  • The north (Alcúdia, Playa de Muro, Port de Pollença): the most popular base, with cyclist-friendly hotels and the Tramuntana and Formentor close by.
  • Palma and the bay (Palma, Playa de Palma): close to the airport, with quick access to the interior and the mountains.
  • The east (Cala Ratjada and around): quieter roads and the hills of the Llevant.

From the airport to the hotel with your bikes

The first day is usually the trickiest: a big group, several bike boxes and sometimes different flights. With Virgui Bus the club travels in a private minibus and the bikes go in a trailer, in their box or bag, at no extra charge. The price is fixed for the whole group, not per person or per bike, and you can see it on each destination page. Nothing is paid online: you pay the driver on the day of the service.

If the group arrives on several flights, send us all the flight numbers and we will organise the pick-ups. On the last day it works the other way round: from the hotel to the airport with the bikes already packed.

Ride days

Many of the island's best rides start a long way from your base. Instead of riding there and back, the minibus can take you to the start and collect you at the end:

  • To the Serra de Tramuntana, to start in Sóller or Lluc without the approach kilometres
  • Pick-up at the end of a linear ride, at the time we agree
  • Rest days with a private excursion or the minibus with driver by the hour
  • Short transfers to the bike shop, the physio or the club dinner

5 tips for organising your camp transport

  1. Book early. In February and March many clubs arrive at the same time and the arrival weekends fill up.
  2. Count bikes and boxes. Tell us how many bikes you are bringing and how they are packed, so we bring the right trailer.
  3. Send all the flights. With the flight numbers we can organise the pick-ups even if you arrive in separate groups.
  4. Plan the ride days away from the hotel. If you know in advance which days you want to start in the Tramuntana, we can prepare a single quote for the whole week.
  5. More than 20 people? Our minibuses carry up to 22; for larger groups we prepare a proposal with several vehicles.

Do you carry bikes in their box or bag?

Yes. Bikes travel in a trailer, in their box or bag, at no extra charge. Tell us how many when you book or ask for a quote.

Is the price per person or per bike?

Neither. It is a fixed price for the whole group, based on how many of you there are, with bikes and kit included.

Can you drop us at the start of a ride and pick us up at the end?

Yes. We drop you and your bikes at the start and pick you up where the ride finishes, at the time we agree.

Do you work in winter?

Yes, all year round. Winter and spring are exactly the training camp season.

How do we pay?

Nothing is paid when you book online: you pay the driver on the day of the service, the amount shown in your confirmation.
