Playa de Palma transfer: from the airport to the beach by private car, taxi or bus

Playa de Palma —from Can Pastilla to s'Arenal— is one of Mallorca's closest resort areas to the airport: just 3-8 km, depending on where your hotel sits along this long stretch of coast. On such a short run, what decides it isn't the price but whether you arrive with your luggage at the hotel door or out on the main road. And if there are several of you, one taxi isn't enough. Here we compare all four options with real figures.

How to get from the airport to Playa de Palma

Four alternatives for a very short journey. The difference is where they drop you.

Private transfer

Exclusive vehicle, fixed price of €45 for 5–8 people: with eight of you, that's €5.63 each. Your driver waits in arrivals and drops you at the hotel door, whether it's in Can Pastilla or s'Arenal.

  • Fixed price, day or night
  • Flight tracking included
  • Right to the hotel door

Official taxi

The run is short and there are plenty of taxis, but one carries only 4 passengers: a group of 5 to 8 needs two, €24–€44 in total. With night or luggage surcharges each fare can climb to €18–22, and if your flight is delayed nobody waits for you.

  • Variable price (meter)
  • Two vehicles for one group
  • No flight tracking

Shared shuttle

Some operators run between the airport and the hotels of Playa de Palma. From €8 per person sounds cheap, but for eight that's €64 — more than the private transfer, and with waiting and intermediate stops.

  • Waiting and intermediate stops
  • Limited availability for independent bookings
  • Cheap if you travel alone

Public bus (EMT, line 1)

EMT line 1 runs from the airport to Palma city centre and stops on the coastal road near Can Pastilla, at the start of Playa de Palma. At around €1.50 per person it's unbeatable, but most hotels are a 15–30 minute walk away. There's no night service.

  • Long walk with luggage
  • No night service
  • Very cheap

Transport compared: airport ↔ Playa de Palma

Price, time and comfort at a glance, for a group of 5 to 8 people.

Option Est. price (8 people) Time Fixed price To the hotel door Flight tracking
Private transfer €45 (5–8 pax) 5–15 min
Taxi €24–€44 (2 taxis) 5–15 min
Shuttle ~€64 (8 × €8) Variable
EMT bus (line 1) ~€12 (8 × €1.50) + 15–30 min walk
Note: Taxi prices are metered estimates calculated for two vehicles, since a taxi takes a maximum of 4 passengers; they can rise at night (21:00–07:00), on public holidays or with extra luggage. The shuttle and the bus charge per person, while the private transfer is priced per whole vehicle — which is why the comparison flips as soon as you travel as a group.

4 things to know before choosing how to reach Playa de Palma

On such a short run, everything is decided at the drop-off point.

From five people the maths flips

The shuttle costs from €8 per person: for eight that's €64. The private transfer is €45 for the whole group —€5.63 each— and goes straight there, with no waiting and no intermediate stops.

Playa de Palma is six kilometres long

From Can Pastilla to s'Arenal there are several kilometres of coastline. The bus stops at the beginning of that stretch: if your hotel is at the far end, that's a 15–30 minute walk with suitcases.

The bus doesn't run at night

Many flights land late in the evening. That's when the cheapest option disappears and you're left with a taxi on the night tariff — or a transfer that's already booked and waiting for you.

Luggage at no extra cost

The private transfer includes the whole group's luggage. Taxis charge for each suitcase, and on the bus you carry it yourself — on a journey that takes ten minutes by car.

Frequently asked questions: Playa de Palma transfer

Between 5 and 15 minutes, depending on exactly where your hotel is along the coast: Can Pastilla is only 3 km away and s'Arenal about 8. It's one of the shortest airport connections on the island.

Around €12–22 per vehicle on the meter, rising to €18–22 with night or luggage surcharges. A taxi takes a maximum of 4 passengers: a group of 5 to 8 people needs two, so €24–€44 in total, with no guaranteed price and no flight tracking.

Not really. EMT line 1 goes to Palma city centre and stops on the coastal road near Can Pastilla, at the edge of Playa de Palma. Most hotels are a 15–30 minute walk from there, and the line doesn't run at night. The fare is around €1.50 per person.

Per whole vehicle. For 5–8 people it's €45 in total: with eight of you that works out at €5.63 per person, less than the shuttle, which charges per head. For larger groups we have vehicles seating up to 20.

Your driver tracks the flight status in real time and adjusts the pick-up automatically. If it's delayed, they wait at no extra charge — unlike the taxi rank, where you have to queue again.
